Off The Cuff
Take what works, discard what doesn’t.
We're all unique even though our basic needs are the same.
We're all unique even though our basic needs are the same.
I woke up, finally, to the painful reality that most of humankind is rather batshit crazy.
My odd awakenings usually follow a desperate search across the Internet for any and all articles that reveal if anyone else sees what I see, feels what I feel, knows what I know. When I inquired if anyone else has realized that humanity is insane, I was both saddened and relieved to find fellow wakened sufferers. The worst suffering is when you see what you love, dying through self-sabotage. Yet most articles seem to only complain and not offer concrete answers. There is only one way out of the craziness that we've allowed into our world, and it is for each of us to take personal responsibility to set and keep an honorable intention, every day, as if our lives depended on it. This intention requires no fealty to any given religion, culture, or philosophy. It only requires complete, nonviolent commitment to self to Action, Clarity, and Truth.

Have you ever been overweight or chronically ill and done everything the professionals tell you to, but years later not much has changed? You just might be the unwitting victim of well-meaning, well-programmed people with something to lose.
I have no problem admitting my mistakes, and I admit to having a tendency to blindly accept the word of health authoritarians. What can I say? Lifetime chronic fatigue tends to limit your choices. When I was done trusting mainstream authorities, though, I leapt from one frying pan into another and blindly started trusting the promises of alternative wellness authorities. Self-imposed blindness can get you into trouble. I love mainstream medicine’s ability to handle emergencies, and I love the holistic approach that alternative medicine takes. Yet neither have all the answers even within their own realms. And both are often blatantly wrong when it comes to weight- and diet-related health issues. Mainstream medicine led me astray by telling me diet had nothing to do with my health problems, and alternative medicine led me astray with their veggie-and-grain-focused, eat-throughout-the-day-to-control-blood-sugar, devastatingly harmful advice. On top of that, the more I followed their advice, the more supplements I needed! Talk about your cognitive dissonance. Eventually I got desperate and angry. Anger and desperation can and should be used as the motivational ticket that leads back to truth. I finally found two doctors that care more about truth than profits. At least, so far. The first doctor that helped turn things around for me (and saved my life) is Dr. Jason Fung of The Obesity Code and The Diabetes Code. The doctor I want to introduce you to supports Dr. Fung’s work, and has also suffered from mainstream medicine’s authoritarian education advice. But, he decided to do something about it. Now, he has an ongoing quest to share whatever he learns in order to help others get out of the weight and chronic health problems he suffered, all of it due to biased dietary advice. So, without further ado, let me introduce you to one of my favorite authorities who has no problem doing the due-diligence on our behalf and sharing his lessons without turning into an authoritarian: Dr. Ken D. Berry. You might both laugh and cry whenever Doc Berry presents his findings. Enjoy the video. A leading cause and aggravator of chronic health problems is dehydration.
“Low humidity causes static electricity, dry skin and hair, increased susceptibility to colds and respiratory illness, and can allow viruses and germs to thrive. Wood floors, furniture and millwork will split and crack, paint will chip, and electronics can be damaged because of low humidity levels.” Consuming enough water through diet is the typical solution for staying hydrated. Yet, many people are drinking plenty of water and their bodies are still dehydrated. I palpate bodies for a living. Dehydrated bodies are suffering bodies. There is a second, primary source of hydration: The air we breathe. Proper humidity levels can make all the difference. Going from the chart I borrowed from Health Canada, the comfort zone is 30-55% humidity. Do you know what your humidity levels are? Do you know what's stealing the water out of the air you breathe? I'm not sure when I started to see science and spirituality (the purpose behind religion) as coming together, but I believe it was in 2000 around the time this crazy, wonderful man taught me how to feel the energy of a tree, which was also the beginning of my palpation skills training. By coming together, I mean that much of what researchers from multiple disciplines are learning about the root causes of chronic disease and addiction can now more aptly explain the ancient texts that tried to warn us of this very thing. It has never been about the supernatural or some demanding authority figure. It has always been about helping us to see that which would lead us away from health on any level and that which would lead us toward health on all levels, both individually and as a civilization.
This content is suitable for all ages and all beliefs. Enjoy. ![]() "Normalizing" treatments are wonderful, because whatever is out of balance will begin to return to balance. For example: The Old World manual therapy treatment called Gua sha has been shown to lower liver enzymes that are too high, and raise liver enzymes that are too low. This is normalization, and it is worth seeking out normalizing foods, activities, and treatments, especially if you have inexplicable chronic conditions. Tok sen is proving to be another, highly effective normalizing treatment, and both gentle Gua sha and Tok sen are used in my practice. Get ready for the big leap: Intermittent Fasting (IF) and Low Carb High Fat (LCHF) lifestyle diets are very likely normalizing digestive and endocrine function. Here's a lovely, true story (one of untold many) of how being thin doesn't mean healthy and how IF and LCHF can help improve digestive health and turn infertility around: The Faces of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) ![]() My apologies ... while I was having some fun writing a purposely tongue-in-cheek post about something real and important regarding fat in our diet and the body's desperate need for more than we are giving it ... upon review, it was a terribly written piece! I'll be back later with a proper version, minus the attempt at humor that I clearly failed at, likely from too many episodes of The Americans :D. 'Til soon.
It is estimated that over 60 million Americans suffer from short-term (a few days or weeks) or long-term (more than a month) insomnia.
Most cases of chronic insomnia are secondary, which means they are the symptom or side effect of some other problem. You may have heard the standard sleep hygiene tips about avoiding caffeine, using room-darkening shades, and going to bed at the same time every night. Here are a few other ideas that are not as well known ...
