Reflexology is a technique that focuses on specific points within your feet that translate to changes elsewhere in the body. The latest research has proven that our connective tissue is loaded with nerve endings that have a direct connection to the brain. We are now one step closer to understanding how work on the feet seems to "direct" the immune system to the area in the body mapped out in the feet. It also works in reverse, in that our feet can show us where our body is having hidden troubles. Because our feet are a reflection of what is going on elsewhere in the body, reflexology may be used to get a general diagnosis of digestive conditions, for example. The latest research indicates that reflexology helps improve blood circulation, reduce pain (including labor pain and headaches,) and improve digestive health. It can also be used to alleviate back pain, especially when caused by internal structures vs muscle strain.
