Self-Care Recommendations Between Body Shop Checkups

9/7/2019

Woman looking into the sun and thinking about the future of well being
My goal is to get my clients to a point where they don’t need me except for maintenance, 1-4 times a year. Self-care between appointments is the best way to achieve that. Exercise is not self-care. Exercise is helpful, yet is often responsible for pain and injuries. Self-care is what helps keeps clients healthy between checkups.

Chronic Tension and Pain - A new explanation and longer relief

It is not unusual for clients in pain to tell me that they blame their #$@&%*! muscles, posture, or even some magical ability to store stress in specific locations in their body. Allow me to ease your mind by ending the blame game and getting to the likely root of the issues in your tissues. Better yet, there's a new solution, too.

Massage Therapy is both an Art and a Science. There is a long line connecting those two and therefore a wide variety of massage therapists exist, from hard-hitting medical and sports therapists to esoteric energy healers. Fortunately, the needs of individuals are just as varying.
The trick is to find the right therapist for you and your circumstances.

Our Bones Are Talking, Not Growing Horns

Shahar et el., Scientific Reports
Time wrote a refreshingly responsible article titled, "No, Teenagers Are Not Growing 'Skull Horns' Because of Smart Phones." Cell phone use has become so central to people's lives, it should be no surprise that people's necks have developed poor posture that is exacerbated by what's known as over-use syndrome. Both can result in the development of what is commonly called bone spurs. Bone spurs don't generally cause a problem unless they have sharp edges.
My practice now involves about 90% seeking out sharp osteophytes and enthesophytes (types of bone spurs) and "smoothing" them out to avoid the domino effect that any inadvertent sharp edges may cause to surrounding soft fascia or tissues, like nerves, lymph, tendons, or ligaments.
The bones are living, receptive, reactive fascia, and when they exude outward, they are doing so to bring needed support to a given area. Being mineralized hard fascia, sometimes they leave sharp edges upon formation. Sometimes, though, they are reacting, like an allergy or acne, to stress and diet. It all depends on the location and the individual.
The good news is, something can be done about it, and this is why I'm so excited about the direction my practice has taken, because it turns out that most of our aches and pains, tightness and restrictions, are coming from our bones.

Our bones are talking, but are we listening?
This clinician is working hard to learn the language of the hard fascia that we call bones.

How Often Should I Come Back?

You’ve likely noticed something dramatic has changed after your first appointment and have asked, “How often should I come back?”
When it comes to setting your ‘return rate’ - I'd rather you decide your health and wellness priorities. This article is my guidance gift to you; please use it to your fullest advantage.
If you don't want to read further or figure it out on your own, then estimate an initial 1-5 visits spaced about 2-8 weeks apart before reaching peak maintenance. If your symptoms return sooner, come in sooner. If your symptoms return later, come in later.
Healthy clients with no health or pain complaints would benefit from coming in annually or quarterly for maintenance and prevention.
But I think you’d be best served if you read on...

Normalizing Treatments for Health and Fertility

7/19/2018

"Normalizing" treatments are wonderful, because whatever is out of balance will begin to return to balance. For example: The Old World manual therapy treatment called Gua sha has been shown to lower liver enzymes that are too high, and raise liver enzymes that are too low. This is normalization, and it is worth seeking out normalizing foods, activities, and treatments, especially if you have inexplicable chronic conditions. Tok sen is proving to be another, highly effective normalizing treatment, and both gentle Gua sha and Tok sen are used in my practice. Get ready for the big leap: Intermittent Fasting (IF) and Low Carb High Fat (LCHF) lifestyle diets are very likely normalizing digestive and endocrine function. Here's a lovely, true story (one of untold many) of how being thin doesn't mean healthy and how IF and LCHF can help improve digestive health and turn infertility around: The Faces of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS)

I'm sad to hear that The Upper Breast Side is closing for I know they helped many women and children. But, it reminds me to remind you that Connective Tissue Therapy can do wonders for breast health. Just sign up for any Combo service and ask for a "breast tissue flush" as the focus of our work together. An easy-peasy way to get things flowing and keep it healthy for any adult at any age, with or without children. Extremely helpful for before and after reconstruction surgeries, too.

Quick Fix Massage May Be Harmful To Your Health

As consumers discover that massage is less about pampering and more about repairing and restoring, they end up moving away from full body massage toward shorter, fix-it sessions. This is unwise, even if it is an option I still give people.

    Goals

Solutions to everyday stress involve identifying where we are emotionally unhappy and then taking action to correct or curb the circumstances involved. I love this kind of healing-based problem-solving and happily share for those seeking similar unique yet ubiquitous solutions. Consequently, the topics here may vary within health, lifestyle, and work/business.
