Off The Cuff
Take what works, discard what doesn’t.
We're all unique even though our basic needs are the same.
We're all unique even though our basic needs are the same.
Every day is a do-over. Another chance to figure out how to create our own peace of mind and pure heart. This is how we heal our old wounds, our ancestral line, our traumas. No matter what is going on in the world, when the mind is at peace and the heart is pure we are able to move through anything. And by doing so we give hope to others. That’s all self-mastery is. It starts and ends by observing what is, without judgment or ignoring. It proceeds with informed choice. It ends with reflection.
Every day brings with it new challenges. Sometimes it is the same challenge demanding to be conquered. Sometimes it looks different, challenging us to look deeper. Sometime it looks like boring repetition, asking to be appreciated. Every moment offers the challenge and the chance to see, feel, hear, say, and do things different. To respond as if it is both nothing and everything, because that's the truth of everything. Every day is a gift. Open it. Admire it. Play nice and bold with it. Try not to break it. Respect it. Talk to it. Be honest with it. See how it responds to you. Apologize. Make adjustments. Repeat with tomorrow's opportunities, vowing to improve. Find a healthy, sustainable way to cope with everything you have no control over. Act like problems are normal, because they are. Yet also help reduce unnecessary problems. School is meant to be a wonderful place. Permission to be curious. Permission to ask questions. Permission to experiment. Permission to curate creative solutions to old problems. If we didn't get that in school, we can give it to ourselves, every day. What we prioritize, we do. The more we avoid facing what life brings us each day, the more life brings us another chance to face it. It's amazing if you think about it. It’s the perfect classroom. “That’s okay if you got it wrong, you get another chance to get it right. What matters, is that you are doing your best and making the effort. Your best, whatever that turns out to be, is always good enough. Perfection isn’t the goal. Improving is.” Some of us have heftier challenges than others. Some of us have more challenges than others. No one, though, is without challenge. No one. Something we all have in common. Sounds like a great place to start the day.
